If you’ve never had the chance to sit and contemplate what it would be like to brutally tear some poor sod’s vitals from his/her [insert orifice], the latest Darkness II trailer will quickly shed some light on the very messy and twisted process.
You see, Jackie Estacado is back in the follow-up to Starbreeze Studio’s 2007 hit game, The Darkness, and this time his slithery dark passengers, or “Demon Arms,” are hungry for more blood. In the Darkness II, Jackie can now perform a much wider range of grotesque executions than in the previous iteration, including the new “Assecution” … but, I think I’ll let the video explain exactly what that one entrails (pun intended). And of course, players will be able to unlock even more executions as the game’s story unfolds.
Personally, one of my favorite aspects in The Darkness was the ability to send the Demon Arms out to do my bidding; stealthily slithering up on unsuspecting thugs and ripping them to shreds, moments before their buddies ever noticed I was in the room. But the executions were also a major highlight, and what truly set it apart from other FPS titles out at the time. It was a pure unadulterated blast and I would be remiss if I didn’t state that I loved every minute of it!
And based on the trailer, it looks as if The Darkness II is shaping up to be a 2012 contender. It hits store shelves on February 7, 2012, so be sure to mark that on your calendars.
